Come fly with me; Apollo Butterflies

I played it safe. I painted a small wall in our kitchen. I worked with six colours blending as I went. The sky in London is grey today so unfortunately it does not show up in my picture. The big man only noticed after some prompting. Although he went on to say 'no way' for the big wall. I will see how he feels after a belly full of comfort food and some good wine. Something needs to be done, as it is not only splattered with Matilda’s spaghetti, but now her painting exploits have joined the fun.

I had the biggest butterflies in my tummy this morning. We delivered my Come fly with me painting to the Royal Academy of Arts, in the hope that it will shine through the 16,000 other paintings that have been put forward to be hung in the Summer Exhibition. I am perhaps aiming a little high, I just thought whats the worst that could happen? A rejection letter. I think I can handle that. You have to take the knocks, they make you stronger.

Fingers and toes crossed.

Talking of which, just a few more days before one of you win my painting. Fingers and toes, fingers and toes!

This one is for one of you.

Here it is.

A give away which is open to followers.

If you fancy this little painting winging its way to you, then please leave a comment below.

I will let one of the kids pull a name out of a hat on Friday, so you have until then.

Fingers crossed!

Casa no name.

Are you like me, and love the walls in the Toast catalogues? While I admire the clothes, my eyes are always drawn to the pealing crumbling wondrous colours. I know I am peculiar, I can not help it, and this infliction never leaves me. Where ever I go, I am always stroking walls.

In this case, these lovely walls belong in Mexico to photographer Deborah Turbeville. Casa no name.

Over the next couple of weeks, when I have a moment I shall finally be painting my kitchen wall. I am hoping the end result will look a long the lines of this, give or take a few added colours.

Playful decadence.

Feast your eyes. A journey for the soul.
Such playful decadence. Anyone fancy joining in?

Don't forget to pop by on Monday if you fancy a chance to win this small gem.

We are off to paddle in the sea and have some fun as a family. See you in a week.

Photo the one and only Lilyroze.

Patience and grace.

I have never been one for sewing. I do not have the patience or grace. So when someone can sew, I am transfixed.

These are beautiful, someone really has a lot of what I lack. That someone is aux 400 coups.

J. Morgan Puett.

Tom often asks me what I would do if I won the lottery. I would obviously look after the whole family first and then move onto my list of dreams. One dream is to find a big enough space to house a creative hub where artists can come together and create.

Seventeen years ago J Morgan Puett a fashion designer did just that. She sold her 5 shops, packing the last one up in beeswax paper and left New York to set up an artist colony in Pennsylvania .

She called it Mildreds Lane.

All photographs Simon Upton.

And this is what she left behind....her shops, her life.

What a life.

I had better start playing the lottery.

Found via the gorgeous mothtails, who found it here.

Oh what a day!

I spent the day working on these and a special commission which has a lovely story, I still can't show you as it is still a secret, but I will show you once all has been revealed.
The large painting in this picture is also a commission, it still needs more work on the butterflies, but it is nearly ready to go to its new owners. I will get a photograph of it in its new home as it is a really spatial beautiful home.
And then the small painting in the picture, well… that is for one of you.

Once it is finished I will do a give away post, and then one of the kids can pull a name out of a hat. The name that first pops out will win the painting. I will do this in a couple of weeks as we are off on holiday next week, and as it is oil paint it will not dry in time to send before we go.
