My friend bought a hand tied bunch of scented garden flowers and the sunshine with her this afternoon.

Old times, new times, love and laughter. You can not ask for more than that.

I am now wondering if this paint colour will look good on a wall in my kitchen.

I haven't mentioned this to the big man yet. I will mull it over in my head for a while.

Probably a long while.

 here is where I found it, here is where they found it.

Head over heels.

Some new thoughts, mixed with some new patinas. The top left panel has me going giddy. I shall order some new boards for a large painting. It is smoky blue grey with gold mixed in. Really head over heels beautiful.

Today I have managed to get past a hurdle in this painting.

It is now ready for bugs or butterflies, I haven't decided which yet.

Little butterflies

Some days they just want to create, so we made butterfly wings with paint, glitter and gold leaf. Dancing in the sunshine, I tied them to their backs and whoosh, away they flew.

That’s growing up for you.

The long and short of it.

I am going to a black tie event at the weekend, linked to Toms work, and I do not have a cue as to what to wear. I am out of touch with fashion these days. Does one don a long or short dress?

There is a story to the shorter black number. Tom and I went to Ireland for a friends christening, and on the way home stayed in the Morrison in Dublin. We went shopping in Brown Thomas and he bought me this dress. That evening we walked across Halfpenny bridge, and a very nervous Tom stopped me half way across, admiring the sunset , he nervously said the words I had been waiting seven years to hear,

‘Will you marry me?’

I didn’t notice the people streaming past us, my world was on hold.

Maybe that answers my dilemma?

For the love of mountains

My husband is tonight on top of a mountain. Quite literally. They have cycled the 300 miles from Scotland to Wales via the Lake District. Through breath taking scenery, six men on their bikes, one by one they have zipped past, those of us standing still. Today low on energy, as they have been on their bikes for the last six days, they cycled the last 80 miles from Liverpool to Wales. Once at the foot of Mount Snowdon, they ditched their bikes, and started the climb to the top. Tonight they will stay in tents on top of the mountain before their decent tomorrow. Their journey complete apart from a jolly good night out and a long train ride home to us on Thursday.

There is always a beginning and an end to a journey, taking you down a road in which you know not what will happen. It is often thrilling, and of course challenging to do something that you are scared to partake in. Sometimes you just have to take a leap into the inevitable. They did and look where it got them…on top of a mountain.

My heart skips a beat every time I see Claire Basler’s work. Here are some pictures of her studio and work in progress.

Food for thought, of the tastiest kind.

The joy, the pain, the climb, the chase.

The joy, the pain, the climb, the chase. My husband Tom is taking part in a challenge today. One that will take him away from us for six days. He and six team mates will be cycling from Scotland to Wales via the Lake District to the peaks of Snowdonia (300 miles). Once there they will climb over 3000 feet in two days, camping on Mount Snowdon and covering 40 miles on foot. The Coldstream Challenge. A big challenge.

He has a fancy new bike, a new body and a drawer full of padded lycra. The training has been extensive. It has taken him away from us for a fair amount of time, but all this is worth it for they have so far raised £34k for Help for Hero’s and the Wounded Warrior Programme in the States.

When he gets home next Thursday evening, we will be waiting with smiles on our faces and a very proud heart. Reach for the stars Tom, you can do it! X

Now, let me wipe away my tears…… onto another small matter of a give away! The names were put into a bowl this morning, and not one, but two names joined together came out, so it only seems fair that there are two winners……Gilliecoco_28 and Mano. Well done! I spent the morning printing off my tumblr pages and filling my notebook for later inspiration.

The sun is glorious today, finally.... sunshine!

Heaven on earth. Attic.

‘Attic’ in Hampton consists of two shops sitting side by side, one gift and home, the second, furniture and accessories. A third is in East Molesey and is mainly kids. Alistair and Debbie throw everything they love into these shops, shake it all around and present it as a beautiful set that is imaginative and creative, and most importantly makes you want to take a piece of it home.

Jade jewellery laid out within pages of old books, a vintage mannequin laden with a paper skirt stand by vintage boxes housing jewellery shipped from the States. Flower corsages cascading down walls. A wardrobe once opened reveals old comic pages papered to the door, and filled with kids curiosities.

This is heaven on earth.

Charlotte Cory.

Charlotte Cory’s Victorian portraits make me smile. She has created another world, one in which smartly dressed creatures pose for us. Each one tells a story, making you wonder about each mythological creature, as a collection she has created a wonderful cabinet of curiosities from Victorian calling cards, one that I would love to collect.

We went to see Emma, Anton and their sweet new baby Hope. A cup of tea in a gorgeous tea parlour turned out to be a little to much for my boy who needed to stretch his legs that never sit still. So off to the park we went, via Emma’s home.

 And look what I found there, line upon line of her jewellery, everything counted and neatly placed, waiting for her hand. I enjoy seeing peoples creative process, it is interesting to see how people work, however I feel it is a private place, a space where one should be respectful. It is like a window into their world where they often loose themselves in their own thoughts. This in turn makes you the voyeur.
